Better Together: Coffee & Cardamom
Above left: Hazelnut-chocolate cardamom buns by Green Kitchen Stories
As the weather gets cooler I start planning all the ways to stay cozy and warm at home. One of my favorite ways to enjoy cold mornings is slowly lingering over coffee, preferably wrapped in a warm blanket.
To get us excited about the dark, freezing mornings in Finland, we started dedicating Saturday mornings to making something special for breakfast (usually pancakes) and huddling around our tiny kitchen table with coffee. We spent time talking about the week and planning out our day while the pancakes sizzled on the stove. To switch it up we tried different varieties of pancakes. There were blueberry pancakes, banana bread pancakes, apple pancakes, and coconut pancakes. And then one morning there were cardamom buns.
Now, I would not suggest these if you are just looking for a quick breakfast treat, but if you have some time to spare these buns will not let you down. If you’ve never tried cardamom, well you need to. So go pour yourself a cup of coffee and make these buns. Then freeze half of them and pop one in the oven when you’re in need of a fika. You can thank me later.
